A Different Way to Pray

Have you ever wished for a little time to simply be still?

On Friday, August 28, at 5 p.m., Estes Park United Methodist Church will offer a Contemplative Prayer Service in the tradition of Taizé.

If you've never experienced a service like this, it is worship with a quieter, more spacious rhythm. The service will last about 30–40 minutes and, rather than a sermon and many spoken words, will be built around simple repeated songs, Scripture, silence, candlelight, and prayer.

The Taizé tradition began in a Christian community in France and has become known around the world for this simple, meditative style of worship. The repeated music and periods of silence invite us to slow down, breathe, listen, and become more aware of God's presence.

Music for the service will be provided by Nancy Gunter, EPUMC pianist, and Brianna Gress, Estes Park High School Choir Teacher. Together, they will help create the quiet, prayerful atmosphere that is at the heart of Taizé worship.

You don't need to know anything about contemplative prayer or Taizé worship to participate. Simply come and allow yourself to be present.

In a world filled with noise, activity, and constant demands for our attention, perhaps one of the gifts we can give ourselves is a little quiet.
